UPDATE 1.35pm: South Boulder Mines has appointed BC Iron chairman Tony Kiernan as a non-executive director.

South Boulder said the appointment represented a step change in its board composition as the company moved to from an exploration to a production focus at its flagship Colluli potash project in Eritrea.

Mr Kiernan led Chalice Gold Mines in the sale of its Zara gold project in Eritrea for $US114 million earlier this year.

South Boulder shares closed flat at 90 cents.
