Teen playing Pokémon Go stumbles across dead body

A teenage girl has found more than she bargained for when she discovered a dead body while playing the mobile phone game Pokémon Go.

Since launching earlier this week, the augmented reality game has become a massive sensation.

It allows players to capture, battle, train, and trade virtual Pokémon who appear throughout the real world.

Online forums are already filling up with reports of personal injury incurred while exploring the real world, the Verge reports.

Unfortunately for Shayla Wiggins, 19, it was more than personal injury that she encountered. Instead, while playing the game she stumbled across a dead body floating in her hometown river.

Ms Wiggins said she discovered the body "while taking an early morning walk by Wind River to find some Pokémon," the ABC reports.

"As I looked one way, I noticed that there was something in the water in front of me," the Wyoming resident told BuzzFeed News.

"And so I took a closer look and saw it was a body."

Ms Wiggins then called 911 immediately and waited for police to arrive.

“I was crying and shaking really bad because it was a very scary situation,” she said.

In a statement provided to KCWY News 13, the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office said “the death appears to be accidental in nature and possibly that of a drowning.”

“At this time the investigation is ongoing,” the statement said. “Further details as to the circumstances surrounding the death will be released after preliminary autopsy results are received and we have a clearer picture of what occurred.”
