Monadelphous wins $260m Rio contract

Monadelphous says it has won a $260 million contract for construction associated with Rio Tinto's Western Turner Brockman Project in the Pilbara.

"The contract is for the supply and installation of structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation works for the construction of the Western Turner Brockman iron ore plant," the company said in a statement.

The project forms part of Rio Tinto's expansion of its Pilbara infrastructure to increase iron ore capacity to 360 million tonnes per annum by 2015.

Monadelphous managing director Rob Velletri said the company was pleased to have been awarded another important Rio Tinto iron ore project and to continue its long standing involvement in the expansion of the mining giant's Pilbara iron ore operations.

The work is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Monadelphous shares were up 69 cents, or 2.83 per cent, to $25.04 at 10.15am.
