Aluminum maker Alcoa will report its fourth quarter financial results, beginning weeks of earnings announcements from US companies.

At 4am on the ASX 24, the March share price index futures contract was up three points at 4668.

In local economic news on Wednesday, the Australian Bureau of Statistics releases retail trade data and job vacancies numbers for November.

Meanwhile, the Housing Industry Association will release new home sales figures for November.

Yesterday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index dropped 27.1 points, or 0.57 per cent, to 4690.2, and the broader All Ordinaries index lost 25.8 points, or 0.54 per cent, to 4712.3.
