The Australian sharemarket is set for a flat start as world markets took a breather overnight following strong gains in the first few trading days of 2013.

At 4am on the ASX 24, the March share price index futures contract was up four points at 4696.

In economic news, the Australian Bureau of Statistics releases international trade in goods and services data for November.

The Australian Industry Group and the Housing Industry Association will also release their performance of construction index for December.

Yesterday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index fell 6.5 points, or 0.14 per cent, to 4717.3, while the broader All Ordinaries index dropped 4.8 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 4738.1.
