Entries have opened for the 2015 AIM WA WestBusiness Pinnacle Awards, which recognise the leading lights of WA business and identifies the State’s most influential business leader over the past 12 months.

Now in their third year, the Pinnacle Awards celebrate excellence in the corporate, not-for-profit and government sectors across eight categories, with each winner receiving $10,000 to donate to the charity of their choice.

Business Leader of the Year 2014, Andrew Forrest, encouraged other businesses to enter the awards, saying his win was a “wonderful community recognition of the FMG family.”

Small businesses are also encouraged to enter, with previous winner Shereen Lim, principal of Joondalup’s Sparkle Dental, claiming widespread benefits from the accolade last year.

“We entered the awards to differentiate our level of customer service as award-winning,” Ms Lim said.

“Apart from achieving this, it has been an ongoing source of pride and celebration for our team, plus a great win for our fantastic charity partner HeartKids WA and the families they support.”

Darius Wey, chief information officer at HealthEngine said the Emerging Business Excellence Award his company won last year had a positive impact not only his own business, but WA’s entire tech start-up sector.

Rio Tinto, Carnegie Wave Energy, Hawaiian, Domain Stadium and RAC WA and the 2013 Business Leader of the Year Richard Goyder also encouraged the business community to enter after their wins in various categories last year.

Editor of The West Australian Brett McCarthy said businesses should consider the time it took to enter the awards as a longer-term investment, with the publicity helping both winners and finalists to stand out in a crowded marketplace.

He said the publicity could be the key deciding factor in winning new contracts and customers.

Gary Martin, chief executive of AIM WA, said that that receiving one of the Pinnacle Awards provided a source of recognition for team members within an organisation who were dedicated to achieving excellence in business leadership.

“At times when the business environment is tough in Western Australia, winning an award will provide a real boost to team morale,” Professor Martin said.
