A worker has died at a mine in the Pilbara region.

The Department of Mines and Petroleum confirmed the fatality occurred on a mining exploration lease which is part of Consolidated Minerals’ Woodie Woodie manganese mine.

“The accident involved a fitter who was working a dozer being used to clear land for exploration drilling,” DMP Director of Mine Safety Andrew Chaplyn said in a statement.

Two DMP inspectors were sent to the site immediately with two more to travel to the mine on Wednesday to investigate the incident.

Consolidated Minerals released a brief statement confirming the death of a contractor and said police were contacting family members of the deceased.

“This is a very sad occurrence and our thoughts go out to the family, friends and workmates of the person involved,” Consolidated Minerals Australia managing director Paul Muller said.
