Bids lodged for new Brisbane casino
James Packer's Crown Resorts and rival Echo Entertainment have submitted their proposals to develop a casino on prime real estate in Brisbane's CBD.
Both confirmed on Tuesday they had formally lodged with the Queensland government their bids for developments at the Queen's Wharf site.
Crown and its Chinese consortium partner Greenland Group want to develop a six-star hotel and casino at the site, which contains heritage buildings, a number of government buildings and riverfront land.
"When I walked around Queen's Wharf last year, I could see the incredible tourism opportunity the site offered," Mr Packer said in a statement.
"With Greenland, we are fully committed to building something truly spectacular for the people of Brisbane, Queensland and the world."
Echo, the owner of The Star in Sydney, said it was unable to reveal details of its proposal given the confidential nature of the bid process.
It has joined with Hong Kong's Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium for the bid.
Echo says it's expecting the state government to announce the successful proponent early next year.
