Contractor dies at Goldfields mine camp

The death of a contractor at a Goldfields mine camp has been ruled as non-suspicious by WA Police.

Gold miner Saracen Mineral Holdings released a statement this afternoon which said the man was found "passed away overnight" in his room at the Red October accommodation village near Laverton.

Saracen managing director Raleigh Finlayson said the man's next of kin have been contacted.

His age was not released.

Mr Finlayson said Saracen would provide assistance, including counselling services, to the family and affected employees where required.

"This is a very sad occurrence and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and work mates of the man at this time," he said.

Saracen has operated the Red October mine since 2011 and houses its workers at a 128-room camp.

About 60 people live at the camp at any given time.

The majority of personnel work for NSW-based Pybar Mining Services, which holds the mining, underground development and diamond drilling contract at Red October.

It is the second death at a Goldfields camp this year after a 28-year-old contractor died at the Tropicana mine's 700-person accommodation village in May.
