Sage silent on reason for raids
Tony Sage has been shielded by his minders from answering any questions relating to the ongoing Australian Federal Police investigation into his financial affairs.
Fronting his first Perth Glory soccer team press conference since the AFP staged an early morning raid on his office in December, Mr Sage's media advisers told journalists that any questions other than relating to Mr Sage's sacking of Perth Glory coach Ian Ferguson, would immediately see the press conference terminated. Mr Sage then moved to the sidelines halfway through the media gathering, making him unavailable to answer questions.
The nature of the AFP's interest in Mr Sage is shrouded in secrecy but the search warrants relate to an investigation that includes several Commonwealth agencies: the Australian Crime Commission, the Australian Taxation Office and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.
The warrants were executed at the offices of Cape Lambert, of which Mr Sage is executive chairman, and the building that houses Glory.
Both the club and Cape Lambert issued statements last year, saying the raids had nothing to do with them. Cape Lambert told the ASX it had co-operated with the AFP but believed the warrants were "not related to its business".
