Former News of the World Editor and News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks was formally charged in April with obstruction of justice concerning the British newspaper's phone hacking scandal.

She was arrested as part of a high profile case involving Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation newspaper and media empire.

Brooks was charged with three counts of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and arrested alongside her husband Charlie Brooks and four others.

The arrest was part of the police's ongoing investigation into to the phone hacking scandal that shut down Britain's most popular 163-year-old tabloid, News of the World.

The group had allegedly hidden boxes of information and numerous emails that gave evidence of the newspaper's reporters using phone tapping to get information.

At least 90 victims of phone hacking have already been identified in the case with many more expected to come to light. The victims include celebrities, politicians, terrorist victims, crime victims, and members of the Royal family.

However the concern is far broader than just that of phone hacking. There have also been allegations that reporters paid off government officials and police officers for information.
