Wippa heads for the royal wedding
Wippa heads for the royal wedding

Former Perth radio jock Michael "Wippa" Wipfli has risen to dizzying heights in the last three years. The funnyman, who left WA in 2008 after three years hosting 92.9's breakfast show, is now kicking goals in Sydney, presenting Nova's nationwide drive show with Ryan Fitzgerald.

Wipfli says he has his experience on the airwaves in Perth to thank for landing his dream job.

"I had a cracking three years in Perth," he says. "They always talk about flying hours - the longer you have on air you start to make smarter decisions. You know what works and you know what's not worth wasting time on."

In a huge coup, this month Wipfli and Fitzgerald will take on the role as correspondents and official commentators for the April 29 Royal Wedding broadcast on Network Ten.

"We're going Good William Hunting so it will be Fitzy and I doing everything we can to get as close to good old Billy William," he says.

The pair have been invited to cover the much anticipated event of the year from London which will take place on April 29.

Wipfli and Fitzgerald will embark on their Royal Adventure on Good Friday and will broadcast their national Drive show live from the UK for 10 days as well as commentating during the ceremony and performing live crosses during their journey for Ten's the 7pm Project.

Wipfli says they will spend their time attempting to get as close as possible to *Prince William *ahead of his wedding to *Kate Middleton *and things are looking good because they already have a few leads.

"We've got an idea of his location and where he'll be at certain times," he says.

"We spoke to somebody the other day who had been to school with Kate Middleton, played hockey with her. "We're going to spend a lot of time fence jumping, parachuting into Buckingham Palace. Let's hope the snipers have got the day off."

Tune into Fitzy and Wippa on Nova 93.7 weekdays from 4-7pm to catch all their preparation in the lead-up to the big day.
