A trail bike rider crawled to safety after crashing his bike south of Perth yesterday afternoon.

Police launched a search for 22-year-old Andrew Stanham about 7pm yesterday after he failed to return from a ride near Jarrahdale.

The police helicopter and local volunteers, including Mr Stanham's family, were involved in the search.

Suffering a broken leg after his bike collided with a tree, Mr Stanham managed to crawl to a road, where a car involved in the search found him.

The police helicopter flew the man to Jandakot, and he was then taken to Royal Perth Hospital.
