Heartbreaking moment when dog farewells dying owner in hospital captured on video

The moment a dying man's dog said goodbye to him in his hospital bed has been captured in a touching video.

Californian man Ryan Jessen, 33, was hospitalised after suffering a migraine, which turned out to be a ventricular brain hemorrhage. Sadly, he did not recover.

His sister Michelle said doctors said the hemorrhage was caused by high blood pressure, which could have been brought on by frequently drinking energy drinks.

On November 30, her family gathered in Ryan's hospital room to say their final goodbyes and hospital staff agreed to allow his boxer Mollie to join them.

Michelle shared the moving account on Facebook.

"The hospital did the sweetest thing for us and allowed us to bring my brother's dog in to 'say goodbye' so she'd know why her human never came home," she wrote.

"If you knew my brother, he really loved his sweet dog."

Heartbreaking footage of the farewell shows Ryan lying motionless in a hospital bed, while Mollie hovered over him.

Standing beside her best mate, the forlorn canine desperately sniffs Ryan and places her head on his chest, while holding her tail between her legs.

Worldwide support flooded in after the video was shared on Facebook.

"THANK YOU to everybody for the outpouring of support," Michelle wrote.

"We are sincerely touched and humbled by others' stories, their sharing in our sadness and the kindness of so many people."

Michelle told everyone not to worry about Mollie because "We're keeping her!!! She's part of the family".

While the family grieves the loss Ryan, Michelle said her brother's death would change the life of another family, with his heart being transplanted to a 17-year-old Californian boy.

"As sad as it is to lose Ryan, we know his heart is going to bring so much joy to the family of the recipient. I wish Ryan could know what a difference his heart will make for that young man," she wrote.
