Australian man's decomposing body found in Cambodian hotel

The decomposing remains of an Australian man who died of a suspected drug overdose have been found in a hotel room bathroom two months after he checked in.

The body of Mark Wayne Allen, 56, was found on the bathroom floor of his room in the Tonle Sap Guest House, located on a popular hostess bar strip, on December 1 in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh, news.com.au reports.

Originally from East Fremantle, WA, Mr Allen checked into Room 202 of the guesthouse on October 15.

His passport indicated he had visited the country in March of this year.

On his fatal venture, Mr Allen stayed in the guesthouse above a 24-hour bar called the Pickled Parrot Pub & Restaurant that overlooks the Tonle Sap River.

Staff noticed a foul smell coming from the room on Thursday before discovering Mr Allen's decomposing remains on the bathroom floor.

His body was taken to the Khmer-Soviet Friendly Hospital after he was identified by police, the website reports.

How long Mr Allen had been dead and the exact cause of his death have not been reported.

He was the second Australian to be found dead from a possible drug overdoes in Cambodia this year.

In February Jonathan William Bond, 24, was found dead near a syringe.

A post-mortem found he died five days before he was discovered, police surmising he had overdosed on drugs.
