'He’s havin’ a crack!': Relentless magpie swoops Aussie cyclist

An Aussie cyclist filmed a "relentless" magpie "havin’ a crack" at him while he was riding on the NSW north coast during peak swooping season.

Anthony Newman was with fellow cyclist Brent Simpson in Chillingham, Murwillumbah when he was swooped 13 times.

"Now I have come across a few psycho and aggressive magpies over my time, but no magpie comes close to being as hectic and relentless as this one," Mr Newman said.

The magpie named, the "Chillingham Savage", used its "super stealth attacks and lightning-speed force" to attack the cyclist on October 18.

In the video, Mr Newman told the camera he was cycling "right into enemy territory" in what he dubbed to be "magpies attack Australia edition".

"Where is he?" the cyclist yelled as he braced himself for the bird's attacks.

Mr Newman was swooped eight times before he yelled: “Leave me alone mate, I’ve had enough.”

“He’s havin’ a crack!

"I can’t go on anymore.”

Eventually the cyclist veered off the road, escaped the magpie's territory and said: “That magpie is off his bloody head mate."

Mr Newman said he rode through the area once before he saw someone getting attacked, which prompted him to record his next encounter.

“It nearly pushed me off my bike and threw me over the handlebars," he told Yahoo7.

“I am always getting smashed by birds."

Mr Newman said the "onslaught of head shots and ear nips was never-ending".

"My helmet now has a few extra ventilation holes," he said.

"Please don't forget to get steel reinforced helmets during our spring season."
