Police fear US serial killer will strike again
US police fear a serial killer will strike again and have upped the reward to find him, a bid to prevent another death.
The man, dubbed the ‘Serial Street Shooter’, has gunned down at least seven people in just a few months across Phoenix.
Stalking predominately Hispanic neighbourhoods, police say the shooter follows his targets before attacking the victims as they stand or sit in cars outside homes.
The shooter had remained unseen after the first seven killings, but he slipped up in July by coming face-to-face with a man who escaped with his life.
The 22-year-old victim was stopped at a four-way intersection when his car faced a black BMW.
The driver fired once at him despite having his four-year-old nephew in the car, and as the victim sped away, fired at least five more times.
“I was like, ‘I gotta get away from this dude’,” the victim said.
That victim was able to describe the shooter as a young-looking, clean-shaven Hispanic man with short black hair.
It is the first time police have been given a description of the man who killed three people in one hit at a Phoenix home on June 12.
Angela Linner, Maleah Ellis and Stefanie Ellis were gunned down at the front of a home, just two kilometres from where the killer’s second victim was murdered on April 19.
In an appeal to the public on Thursday, City police chief Joe Yahner made a fresh appeal for information and offered a $75,000 reward.
“We collectively know somebody out there has information about the suspect involved in these crimes, and we desperately need that information,” he said.
