Bicycle saves teen in lightning strike

A US teen had a lucky escape after he was struck by lightning while filming a storm.

Ethan Riozzi-Bodine decided to go out on his bicycle and capture Monday’s storm when a lightning bolt blasted down in front of him, sending shock waves through his chest and out to his arms and legs.

“The only reason I didn’t pass out or die is because I was holding onto my bike,” the 16-year-old said.

“My whole body was being vibrated.”

The rubber wheel from the bicycle is what kept the Jersey Shore lifeguard grounded.

“I just wanted to get like a cool lightning shot over the ocean,” he said.

Ethan can be heard crying out as the lightning bolt strikes in front of him. A second bolt comes down just seconds later.

Ethan’s mother Elaine says her son was lucky to walk away from the strike with no injuries.

“I just think he’s extremely lucky,” she said. “It could have been very easily been a completely different story.”

After his mother watched the vision and convinced him to go to hospital, Ethan was released completely unscathed.
