‘Slithering snoozer’: Cairns man discovers snake napping under his pillow

It’s the stuff of nightmares…you go to bed and find a snake hiding under your pillow waiting to bite you.

A stunned Cairns man has received the fright of his life when this exact incident happened to him.

The far north Queensland resident was bitten on the hand late last week by the unwelcome bed buddy while trying to fall asleep.

Local Cairns snake catcher, Matt Hagan, played the hero when he received a call from the shaken resident at about 11.30pm.

According to Hagan, the resident, Jack, was just getting comfortable beneath his sheets when he “slipped his hand under the pillow and we bitten on the finger by the enormous spotted python sharing his bed”.

By the time ‘hero Hagan’ arrived the snake had moved on to the bedside drawer.

“A closer inspection of the crime scene revealed a solid spotted python that had quickly taken up residence in Jack's bedside drawer,” Hagan posted to social media.

The snake measured in at an impressive 1.2m in length with the snake catcher calling the snake probably the fattest spotted python he’s ever caught.

“With the cooler weather upon us snake activity will decline but vigilance for pet owners is still recommended,” Hagan posted as a final warning to his social media followers.

This python wasn't the only snake in Queensland to show up in a less than desirable spot.
