'This is what one tiny pill can do to you': Teen left in wheelchair after taking MDMA

The family of a teenager who was left in a coma after taking MDMA have shared a heartbreaking video which shows how their daughter’s life has changed.

16-year-old Amy Thomson’s life was dramatically altered when she collapsed at an ‘ecstasy party’ in Glasgow earlier this year.

She spent weeks in a critical condition, fighting for life in hospital, as her family kept a bedside vigil.

The family have shared a video to show how far the school girl has come since waking up from the coma, but it also shows the devastating effects that a ‘tiny pill’ has had on her brain and body.

In the footage you can see Amy sitting in a garden in her wheelchair, she has trouble speaking but says ‘thank you, thank you everyone’ as she lifts her hand to wave.

The drug has seriously damaged her brain, however her family are hopeful that she will continue to make progress.

Amy’s cousin Kalya commented once the video was released: 'Some people may have cried, laughed or been shocked seeing the video. But this is what a tiny pill can do to you,’

‘If this isn't an eye-opener for everyone who continues to take stuff, I dunno what is.

‘What you are seeing is amazing compared to the way she was a few weeks ago. She's improved in many amazing ways. She still has many improvements to show us all.'

Amy was hospitalised on June 10 after the party along with three other girls aged 15, 17 and 18.

The others were discharged but Amy was critically ill. She was on life support for about a month.

Last month she was moved into a specialist rehabilitation unit for people with brain injuries.

A 33-year-old man and two teenage women were arrested for alleged drug offences.

Police and doctors have repeatedly warned the public about the threat posed by MDMA.
