Soaked man speaks out about Melbourne train altercation

The man who copped a drenching on a Melbourne train after asking a woman to turn her loud music down says he did nothing to instigate the attack.

In a carriage packed to the brim with people on Friday morning, one woman playing loud RnB cared little for the many glares of her fellow commuters.

Jeremy Hewitt hopped on the Sunbury line train where only "half a seat" was available next to the woman, although he said she did not offer it to him.

"Her handbag was on the seat and I asked her to move it," Hewitt said.

He told Yahoo7 he picked up her bag and moved it to the floor before sitting down. Soon after taking his seat, the woman "heaved her body" into him.

Other passengers began looking at them when the woman started playing her loud RnB music.

Then she squirted him with water and "heaved her body into him" again.

"Everyone was universally pissed off at them," Hewitt said.

Hewitt got up and moved to the seat behind him, offered by another woman. Then he got his camera out and started to record.

The woman who offered Hewitt the seat asked off-camera if she would "turn the volume down".

"Have some respect," the woman added.

An instant later, the RnB fan turned around indiscriminately sprayed her bottle of water at everyone sitting behind her.

"Are you f***ing dumb," she says, letting loose another squirt of water.

"Shut the f*** up," she says, not caring that she's being filmed.

A number of people got a splash, which only turned more passengers against the RnB fan.

"You're off your f***ing head. I'm just sitting here ... chuck s*** on me, I'm going to f***ing work," says one damp passenger.

"That better have been f***ing water," says another, only to be told by the woman: "Shut the f*** up – what else am I gonna drink in the morning?"

No other passengers appeared to intervene, and the woman continued to play her loud music until "one big tough guy" told her to turn it off, Hewitt said.

Hewitt said he had never seen the woman on the train before but she "sprayed a little bit more abuse as I was going to get off the train".

The woman allegedly said she would take the matter to the police, to which Hewitt said he would give her the video.

"I think that’s what everyone should do – film," Hewitt suggested to anyone witness to such behaviour.

"Just behave yourself. It's only a short journey."

The encounter, posted to YouTube occurred on a Metro Train in Melbourne – the world's most livable city.
