Lloyd Rayney is suing senior forensic investigator Mark Reynolds over comments made at a forum at Curtin University last year.

In June, Dr Reynolds is alleged to have answered a question about the need for a cold-case review into the 2007 murder of Corryn Rayney.

Mr Rayney launched legal action against Dr Reynolds in the Supreme Court today, claiming the comments he made were defamatory.

He is seeking a permanent injunction that will stop Dr Reynolds from repeating the comments as well as unspecified damages and costs.

The comments were allegedly made at the end of an Australian and New Zealand Forensic Science Society special presentation.

The forum was attended by about 100 scientific and legal experts who had gathered to discuss issues with the forensic evidence presented at Mr Rayney’s trial.

Mr Rayney was found not guilty of murder at a trial and again on appeal.

Last month, WA Police Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan announced he had ordered a cold-case review into Ms Rayney’s murder.
