Perth Heat have pulled off a coup in their bid for a third straight Australian Baseball League championship, luring respected manager Kevin Boles to replace Steve Fish.

Boles has spent his past two years managing the Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate, the Pawtucket Red Sox, and led them to a 79-65 record in 2014.

Boles 15 years experience managing minor league teams for respected organisations such as he Miami Marlins, Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins and the Red Sox.

Boles boasts 876 victories to 851 defeats (.507), has two minor league international championships to his name.

Boles, the son of former major league manager John, was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 42nd round of the June 1998 Major League Baseball amateur draft.

The 40-year-old played one season for the Chicago Cubs short season A affiliate, the Williamsport Cubs, as a catcher before switching his attention to managing.

Boles previously coached the Sydney Blue Sox into a preliminary final in Australian Baseball League in the 2011-12 season.

“It's an honour to have the opportunity to come back and manage in Australia, especially with a first class organisation like the Perth Heat,” Boles said.

Boles will be working alongside Fish to develop young WA talent to prepare them for college and affiliated baseball in the US. Heat operations manager Lachlan Dale Boles’ appointment would help not just the elite team but baseball as a whole in WA.
