Officers injured after nude bank 'assault'

Two police officers were hospitalised after two brothers allegedly assaulted a bank customer before one stripped naked and threw a glass at an officer in Karratha this morning.

Two brothers aged 33 and 35 have been charged over the incident which started when they allegedly pushed a man into a desk in a shopping centre bank on Sharpe Avenue about 10am.

The 33-year-old is alleged to have threatened the female bank manager before being approached by an off-duty police officer as he left.

The 33-year-old is then alleged to have thrown a glass bottle at the officer, hitting him in the arm, before stripping naked.

He dressed himself before on-duty officers swooped on the area, arresting the men.

During the arrest, one of the officers received a broken rib and was hospitalised.

The off-duty officer was also taken to Nickol Bay Hospital after receiving an injury to his arm.

The men are alleged to have yelled abusive and racist remarks throughout the incident.

Both men, who are from Nickol, have been charged with common assault, criminal damage, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and conduct likely to racially harass.

The 33-year-old has also been charged with a second count of common assault and assaulting a public officer.

They are due to appear before Karratha Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
