Wrong-way crash accused in court

A woman accused of injuring two people when she allegedly drove on the wrong side of the Kwinana Freeway while under the influence of alcohol has made a brief appearance in court.

Amanda Louise McMahon, 44, has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving occasioning bodily harm and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police allege Ms McMahon crashed head-on with a Holden Acclaim when she drove her Commodore on the wrong side of the southbound lanes of the freeway in Salter Point on May 3.

Sarah Lavell, the 19-year-old passenger in the other car, received life-threatening injuries in the crash.

Ms Lavell was trapped in the wrecked car for an hour before firefighters could free her and was later warned she may never walk again.

The 20-year-old driver of the Acclaim suffered minor injuries.

As part of her bail conditions, Ms McMahon can not contact Ms Lavell.

Ms McMahon will appear in court again on June 25.
