Attacks target women in cars

Women targeted in cars

Police are investigating two attempted robberies on women in cars in Perth’s eastern suburbs.

The first attack happened outside a property on Sussex Street in East Victoria Park about 8.10pm on Monday.

A 20-year-old woman had just left a friend’s house and noticed a group of people across the road before she got into her car.

She was tending to some personal items on the passenger seat when her car door, which had been ajar, was pulled open.

Two men then tried to drag her out of the car, but she screamed and struggled.

One of the men hit her in the face, causing minor bruising, before the pair ran off.

At 9.35am the following day, a man punched a 46-year-old woman in the face while she was stopped at traffic lights in East Victoria Park.

The woman was stopped at the intersection of Oats Street and Shepperton Road when the man opened her car door and demanded her handbag.

She refused to hand it over and the man punched her before he ran to a nearby car, which drove off.

The woman suffered a cut on her nose and her glasses were broken.
