Eurovision rates well but not the best

We may have had an Australian competing in Eurovision for the first time ever but it wasn’t enough to break the TV ratings record set two years ago.

Aussies were keen to support our first Eurovision representative, Guy Sebastian, who came fifth - but not at the expense of their Sunday morning sleep-in.

The live 5am broadcast on SBS pulled in just 263,000 viewers, according to OzTAM’s ratings figures.

Thousands more, however, did tune in to watch the 7.30pm (AEST) replay, which attracted an audience of 592,000. This is 100,000 more viewers than last year’s replay of the contest, won by bearded drag queen Conchita Wurst. But it is just short of the ratings figures in 2013, when Denmark’s Emmelie Charlotte-Victoria de Forest claimed Eurovision victory.

The 2013 song contest attracted 595,000 viewers and was the highest rating Eurovision since OzTam ratings were introduced in 2001.

EUROVISION REPLAY RATINGS:

2015: 592,000

2014: 476,000

2013: 595,000

2012: 531,000

2011: 511,000
