Ideal cover girl inspires

Local youth advocate Tonii Skeen has been chosen to appear on the cover of this year's Great Northern Yellow and White Pages.

An inspiring Broome resident has elevated her stellar profile to new heights after being chosen to grace the covers of this year's Great Northern Yellow and White Pages.

Youth advocate Tonii Skeen was selected under the Australian Stars Rising Above theme, which celebrates up and coming individuals who go above and beyond to make positive changes in their community.

An outstanding local achiever, Ms Skeen was recognised for her dedication to create a better future for indigenous youth by improving local health and wellbeing.

After winning the 2013-14 ABC Heywire Youth Award, Ms Skeen was one of 40 young Australians invited to attend last year's Youth Summit, where she passionately spoke about first-aid, education and public safety training as important community issues.

Subsequently, she developed the Tools of Survival initiative, a first-aid course offering additional training on how to identify signs of mental illness and bullying.

An enthusiastic role model, Ms Skeen was also credited for inspiring the next generation of community leaders through her work.

Yellow Pages marketing specialist Belinda Di Pietro said the resident was this year's ideal cover girl.

"We are thrilled to recognise Tonii's efforts in creating a brighter future for her community," she said.

Ms Skeen follows in the footsteps of Fitzroy Crossing residents June Oscar and Emily Carter, who appeared on the 2013-14 covers of the directories.
