Australian fans have begun arriving in Vienna to support Guy Sebastian's Eurovision bid.

Members of the Australian Eurovision Fan Club Facebook group met in Cafe Einstein at the weekend as a precursor to a week of parties, dancing and singing.

Tina Donovan, of Leederville, is at her second Eurovision after "stumbling by accident" on the 2008 competition in Belgrade.

"It was then that I realised Eurovision is more than just a tacky song contest," she said.

"It's a happy and joyous occasion that has played a pivotal role in making Europe feel better about itself over 60 years."

Greenwood's Kohan Ikin is at his fourth Eurovision. "I went to Dusseldorf five years ago as a bit of a joke - I thought it would be hilarious," he said.

"But what I discovered was a really great time and that's why I keep coming back."

Eurovision week began on Sunday with a red-carpet parade of the artists and the official opening in the Vienna City Hall.

Sebastian proved particularly popular with European media, who are already impressed by his voice and his genial disposition.

The first semifinal will be live on SBS at 3am tomorrow. With Australia competing this year, viewers can have a vote.
