Snake gets last laugh as joke backfires

The saying goes that karma will always bite you on the bottom. For one Kununurra man, it bit him on the finger this week in the form of a two-metre long snake he was using to terrorise supermarket shoppers.

Police were called to the Coles Kununurra carpark on Monday night where the intoxicated man in his 20s had brought the decomposing corpse of a snake to show it off as a "joke to scare shoppers and children in the vicinity".

But the joke turned on him and the snake had the last laugh when it "bit" his finger, drawing blood, leaving him facing an embarrassing trip to the hospital for treatment.

Kununurra police Sergeant Phil Heathcoat said that while explaining his actions to officers, the man “for some inexplicable reason” put his hand inside the snake’s mouth, accidentally impaling his finger, leaving the snake with the "last laugh".

Sgt Heathcoat said officers took the man to Kununurra Hospital for assessment while the snake was taken to an undisclosed location to “continue decomposing” in peace.
