Outback search for prospector renewed

Dozens of police will today begin a second major search for clues to the death of Raymond Kehlet and disappearance of his wife Jennie near Sandstone, 700km north of Perth.

More than 40 officers, including the major crime squad and forensic experts, began arriving in the tiny Goldfields town yesterday.

Sandstone Shire president Beth Walton said she was pleased police were throwing more resources into the mystery, which rattled the town.

She said rumours and conspiracy theories were spreading through the Goldfields, with people making up their own stories.

"Sandstone is usually a lovely little safe town so we just hope they do find something and there's some closure," she said.

Ms Walton suspects speculation about the mystery was partly responsible for a downturn in visitors at a usually busy time.

Raymond and Jennie Kehlet were last seen at their camp on March 22 and Mr Kehlet's remains were found on April 1 in a mineshaft not far from the camp site.
