Police expand search for missing woman

Police have announced the expansion of the search for missing woman Jennie Kehlet, who has not been seen since March.

Mrs Kehlet, 49, and her 47-year-old husband, Raymond, were camping and prospecting in an area about 30km south of Sandstone from March 19.

Their dog, a dark-coloured great dane, was found at Sandstone Caravan Park on March 28 and local rangers attended the Kehlets' campsite two days later but found no one there.

Mr Kehlet's body was found on April 8 in a mineshaft about 1.8km from their campsite.

The Beverley couple were reported missing on March 31, which prompted an extensive land and aerial search that involved police, the Department of Fire and Emergency Service, the State Emergency Service, the Shire of Sandstone and local residents.

The land search covered 11sqkm while the aerial search covered more than 625sqkm and involved helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.

The initial search ended on April 12 and focused on the couple's search and rescue, with the objective of finding them alive.

Police today announced that the expanded search would examine a broader area and re-visit previously searched areas in an attempt to find items that could shed light on Mr Kehlet's death and Mrs Kehlet's disappearance.

Officers from major crime squad are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death and disappearance.

"Police remain in close contact with the Kehlet family as the investigation continues," a WA Police spokesman said.

"Police are seeking assistance from any member of the public who was in the Sandstone area between March 18 and March 31, including from people who may have since travelled interstate.

"Information is also sought regarding a number of items, including prospecting equipment, which has not yet been recovered.

"If such equipment is located, police ask that the GPS location is recorded and police are contacted immediately."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
