Packer a winner in big fight

While James Packer joined 16,000 others in Las Vegas to see Floyd Mayweather Jr triumph over Manny Pacquiao, his Crown Perth venue was yesterday heaving with those equally keen to see how the match would play out.

Photographs on social media suggested it was standing room only for the 12-round fight, with some criticising the traffic chaos that ensued once Pacquiao's fate had been sealed.

The Burswood venue was one of dozens around Perth screening the welterweight unification championship bout.

Mayweather's history of domestic abuse prompted some commentators to call for a boycott, with two journalists who had written about the subject claiming they were denied credentials to the fight as a result.

The crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas was the subject of almost as much attention as what was happening inside the ring. Sports stars, actors, models, singers and the simply very rich were there for the action.
