Donnybrook daredevil Josh Sheehan has today set a new world record by becoming the first person to land a triple backflip on a motocross bike.

The Nitro Circus star told The West Australian last September that he had been forced to overcome fear and bouts of depression because of serious injuries that threatened his career.

But, today, he achieved the feat at fellow rider Travis Pastrana’s Maryland complex in the United States.

“It was an exhilarating ride and to be the first person to ever have done this was definitely a defining moment in my career and a dream come true,” Sheehan said.

Vision of the ride shows an exhilarated Sheehan casting aside his bike after landing and throwing both arms in the air as he is congratulated by a team of onlookers.

Pastrana, Nitro Circus founder and Sheehan’s teammate, was the first to ever land a double backflip at the 2006 X Games competition in Los Angeles.

Sheehan became the extreme sport’s world champion for the first time last year.
