The Tanner family is returning to TV, with a 13-episode Full House spinoff series on Netlix.

Actor John Stamos, who played Uncle Jesse on the hit family comedy, confirmed the news on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night.

“I’m going to give you the exclusive,” Stamos said to Kimmel.

“Literally just like five minutes ago they (Netflix) called, they sealed the deal,” he revealed to cheers from the audience.

Stamos said it has been a project he and the original creators have been working on for “many, many years”.

“We were trying to do some sort of spinoff and we wanted to give credit to the legacy, we didn’t just want to throw it away and so Netflix came around and said ‘lets do 13 episodes.”

The series will be called Fuller House and will focus on the character of D.J Tanner, played by Candace Cameron Bure, and her best friend Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber).

“Candace has three boys and its sort of a reversal and we turn the house over to her, but its a labour of love and we have literally been trying for many years to do it right,” Stamos explained.

Stamos, a producer on the show, and other Full House character are expected to make regular appearances.

Fuller House will start will a one-hour reunion show.

It’s news fans of the show have long hoped to hear since castmates started teasing and hinting at a possible Full House reunion in recent months.

Stamos recently shared a photo of himself in front of the San Francisco home used for the show, which aired from 1987 to 1995.
