Kings Park prepares for crowd

Organisers of the Kings Park dawn service are reassuring people there will be room for every-one, with special arrangements to cater for the anticipated crowds, including nine big screens and 164 shuttle buses.

Returned and Services League Anzac Day organising committee chairman Duncan Warren said about 60,000 people were expected to attend the historic service and extensive free public transport and extra viewing areas were available.

He urged people to take advantage of free public transport because there would be additional road closures and restricted parking. Free Perth-bound trains would begin from about 2.30am-3am, depending on the line, and a convoy of 164 buses would ferry passengers from the Esplanade bus port.

There would also be 20 buses within Kings Park from 4am until 9.30am, picking up people at the Vietnam War Memorial.

People with mobility difficulties are advised to take those buses to avoid the 10-minute walk from the other drop-off point on Kings Park Road.

Shani Wood, of event organiser SW Events, said there would be hundreds of volunteers to provide directions and programs.

Mr Warren said organisers would work from the major incident control centre at the Maylands police complex.
