Perth will become an international destination again for Qantas with the airline set to reinstate its Perth-to-Singapore flights from June.

Qantas decided to shelve the route last year, meaning it would no longer use Perth as an international hub.

However the airline has decided to reinstate the service, with five return flights a week.

WA tourism minister Kim Hames welcomed the announcement, saying it offered more choice for travellers and could only be seen as positive for the local economy.

"We were disappointed when Qantas decided to shelve the route last year, however I am pleased to see it back on the regular flight schedule," he said.

"The decision recognises the importance of Perth as a major gateway in Australia, and caters to the growing corporate and leisure visitor markets."

The government said Singapore remained a key international market and it planned to grow the value of tourism in WA to $12 billion by 2020.

In the 12 months to September last year, 78,800 visitors from Singapore spent $193 million in WA.

Those figures represent a 30 per cent increase in visitors and a 21 per cent increase in spend on the year before.
