A 250-year-old leather dildo has been discovered by archaeologists in an ancient toilet in Poland.

The 20cm dildo was discovered in the Baltic city of Gdańsk during an excavation dig of an ancient latrine in what is believed to have been a fencing school.

The dildo, which was made of high quality leather, dates from the second half of the 18th century, according to Discovery News.

“It is quite thick and rather large, made of leather and filled with bristles, and has a wooden tip that has preserved in excellent condition,” the country’s Regional Office for the Protection of Monuments said in a press release.

Archaeologist believe that the phallic object was accidentally dropped in the toilet by the person who was using it.

Other objects found in the latrine include fragments of pottery and jewellery. Several remains of wooden swords which were found nearby suggest the site was a fencing school.

The sex toy, which has been described as an extraordinary find for people researching the history of erotica, has been taken away for maintenance.

For thousands of years people have used sex toys made from wood, leather, stone and even animal dung, according to the Institute of Sexology.

Earlier this year a prehistoric phallus dating back 28,000 years was found in Germany. The object which was found in January, is considered the world’s oldest sex toy.
