Driver charged after police chase

A 38-year-old Cloverdale man has been arrested for allegedly smashing a stolen car into a carport after a police pursuit this morning.

Police saw a Nissan Coupe allegedly stolen from Bassendean five days ago travelling on Fernhurst Crescent in Balga just before 11am.

After attempts to stop the vehicle failed, a short pursuit followed. The car ploughed into a home on Yew Court in Mirrabooka, smashing through the carport.

A car inside the carport was significantly damaged and it is understood a 73-year-old woman inside the house was left badly shaken.

The man then fled and into a nearby property, where he was arrested by police.

He was charged with stealing a motor vehicle, reckless driving, criminal damage, failing to stop and having no driver's licence.

He is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court tomorrow.
