Restaurant rampage escalates

Police allege diners were threatened, a restaurant manager and an elderly man punched and a woman hit in the head with a thrown chair at Outback Jacks restaurant during Northbridge rampage last night.

A 24-year-old Beechboro man has been charged and police are continuing their investigations into other men who may have taken part in the alleged string of crimes in the entertainment district last night.

A spokeswoman says police allege three men were behaving in a disorderly manner at the restaurant on James Street around 7.55pm.

"The incident escalated with one man armed with a knife threatening customers and the three men throwing tables and chairs about," she said.

The 49-year-old restaurant manager approached one of the men and was allegedly punched to the face, causing him to fall to the ground. Police allege the manager was kicked while on the ground.

"It is further alleged the man then threw a chair at a 45-year-old female customer, hitting her on the head. She was conveyed to hospital for treatment."

Police allege three men ran from the restaurant down James Street towards William Street, causing multiple disturbances.

It is alleged the accused 24-year-old man armed himself with chairs and wooden poles, throwing them at people at the intersection of William Street and James Street, before throwing a bottle at a family standing at the intersection.

The man then ran towards the Cultural Centre and allegedly punched a 76-year-old man in the face, causing him to lose his balance and fall to the ground, injuring his wrist.

The man has been charged with two counts each of Common Assault and Endanger Life, Health or Safety and one count of Common Assault in Circumstances of Aggravation.

He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today, 29 March 2015.

Inquiries are continuing and police would like to speak to anyone who was in Northbridge last night who may have seen the three men or any of the mentioned incidents.
