Police were looking for a man last night in relation to a string of burglaries in Victoria Park after a police operation lasting about eight hours.

Police officers, forensics officers, the dog squad and Police Air Wing helicopter swooped on a Heirisson Way apartment block yesterday after break-ins at several units and a car in the early hours.

There were reports the resident of an apartment was at home when a person armed with a gun and a taser broke in.

A police dog helped officers find a man in the backyard of a property in Leonard Street in the afternoon but he was wanted for an unrelated matter.

Police said last night they were still looking for the person of interest.

He was described as about 20 to 25 years old with a pale complexion, dark hair, thin build, dark eyes and about 173cm tall.

He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with cream stripes on the front, dark trousers and runners.

Anyone with information was asked to call police.
