Prominent doctor Rosanna Capolingua has launched action in the WA Supreme Court alleging she has been defamed by The West Australian’s coverage of the Healthway tickets investigation.

Lawyer Martin Bennett, for Dr Capolingua, has served a writ on The West Australian alleging that the newspaper’s coverage on Friday, February 20 had defamed her, causing loss and damage.

The writ said the newspaper’s page one report of the findings of a Public Sector Commission report, which was tabled in State Parliament, and a page 60 cartoon by Dean Alston had defamed Dr Capolingua.

The writ seeks unspecified damages, aggravated damages, interest on damages at the rate of 6 per cent from the date of publication to the date of judgment, and costs.

Dr Capolingua announced she had resigned as chair of the Healthway board on Tuesday, February 24 at a press conference with Premier Colin Barnett.
