200 cars on fire at wreckers

Around 45 firefighters were called to around 200 cars on fire in a car wrecking yard in Bellevue this morning.

The car fires at the Robert Street yard were reported at 3.34am. It is not known what caused the fires.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said firefighters had protected adjoining structures on the site.

The fire was soon contained and under control but smoke from the incident extended west across Roe Highway.
