GoPro search for mystery surfer

Vision from a GoPro camera found off Cottesloe may help identify its owner.

A snorkeller searching for lost fishing tackle north of Cottesloe Beach has discovered a GoPro camera which contains footage that may identify the owner.

The beachcomber found the camera wedged in a rock crevice just off the beach between Cottesloe and Swanbourne on Sunday.

The camera, which was in excellent condition, had recorded footage of a young man surfing at Trigg. The vision was dated January 5, 2013 - although the finder doubts the date is accurate because the sky is overcast and the surfer is wearing a wet suit.

The man who found the camera is keen to have it returned to its rightful owner, who can contact The West Australian to reclaim it.

In October last year the same beachcomber found another GoPro in seaweed on the low tide just south of Cottesloe beach.

The memory card in that camera showed footage of a young male surfer catching a wave, also off Trigg, before the camera tumbled into the water.

The vision, dated March 2, 2011, was followed by images of surfers paddling overhead and curious schools of fish which take an interest in the camera as it is carried through the water.

The owner of that camera was never identified.
