High-rise pool plan for Perth city

An ambitious new addition to Perth’s skyline that would see a hotel swimming pool suspended mid-air between two buildings has been recommended for approval.

The Pier Street proposal would see an existing single-storey building demolished to make way for a hotel, residential and office development.

What sets the design apart from the raft of plans in the pipeline for Perth’s CBD is the inclusion of a pool intended to stretch between two buildings: a 29 storey hotel with 150 rooms and a 16-storey office and retail development.

The proposal from site owner Yuanlong Investment Group Pty Ltd has been recommended for approval at Thursday’s development assessment panel meeting.

According to a report to the DAP the group behind the design, TPG Town Planning Group, said while the development was “undoubtedly ambitious” a structural report had indicated it was buildable.

However, detailed design work for the pool has not been completed.
