Court honour at last for Kyrgios

Court honour at last for Kyrgios

Australian star Nick Kyrgios has been scheduled to play sixth seed Andy Murray on Rod Laver Arena tomorrow night in his first match on centre court.

Kyrgios has taken the tournament by storm, with his matches on the smaller feature courts having a raucous atmosphere. Channel 7 commentator Jim Courier said he'd never seen a grand slam crowd like the one Kyrgios played in front of at Hisense Arena on Sunday night.

The Australian's matches have been Margaret Court Arena, Show Court Three and Hisense Arena. Margaret Court Arena is a fully ticketed stadium but the other courts are accessible with a general admission ticket.

They smaller venues have attracted a vastly different crowd to Rod Laver Arena which has a capacity of 15,000. Tickets for tomorrow night's match are $163, compared to just $59 for the ground pass that enabled fans to get into Hisense Arena on Sunday night.

The Hisense Arena crowd was so loud as Kyrgios fought back from two sets down to beat Andreas
Seppi that their cheers could be heard from Rod Laver Arena.

"Hisense is an unbelievable court," Kyrgios said.

"I'd never played on it before. It's definitely my favorite court now.

"The court itself is actually quite small. The back, from the baseline, actually isn't a long way back. I really enjoyed that. It's actually a pretty small court, and then it just extends wide with the crowd.

"It was really cool. Even when I got out there with the warmup, I thought it was a really, really good court.

"In the fifth set it was getting unbelievably loud. It was like Margaret Court Arena last year.
It was an unbelievable atmosphere in there."

Kyrgios is the first local to reach the Australian Open quarter finals since Lleyton Hewitt in 2005.

Tomorrow's match will start at 4.15pm WST. Third seed Rafael Nadal will face seventh seed Tomas Berdych during the day session.

The winners of those quarter finals will play in the semi-finals.

Kygrios was so excited to be playing in the quarter finals, he said the venue was irrelevant.

"I don't mind. (I'll play on) Court 20," he said.
