An Australian-themed video celebrating our national heroes and oddities is becoming an internet hit.

The upbeat song, Straya, is sung to the tune of Outkast's 'Hey Ya' and has attracted more than 200,000 views on Youtube and countless shares on social media in just two days.

Released in time for Australia day, it has been shared on the Youtube channel of Melbourne musician Terry Mann, under the moniker Coach Bombay.

The song includes the lyrics “don’t try to find the capital or fight the animals you’re on your own” and “now, what’s cooler than a big cool beer? Ice cold”.

Mr Mann, 27, who works in advertising said the idea came from his Facebook friends who suggested replacing the Outkast lyrics Hey Ya with Straya.

“And from there I went away and wrote the new lyrics, recorded the vocals and put the video together with found footage. It was a lot of fun,” he said.

Mr Mann said the video had been well received since it was released on Monday and hoped to encourage a “positive and celebratory” vibe through its release ahead of Australia day.

“Also, we don’t really have a ‘song’ for Australia Day, and everyone loves a good sing-a-long. Well, I do anyway,” he said.
