One of the Bali Nine drug smugglers on death row in Indonesia could be headed for the firing squad after he lost his final bid for Presidential clemency.

Myuran Sukumaran and fellow Australian Bali Nine conspirator Andrew Chan have had a clemency request before Indonesian President Joko Widodo for more than two years.

It is understood a copy of the rejection letter, which was signed by President Widodo on December 30, was delivered to the Denpasar District Court and the Prosecutions service today.

Chan, who is also on death row, is yet to receive a decision on his clemency plea.

President Widodo has taken a hard line against drug traffickers, last month declaring that none of the 64 convicted drug convicts on death row would get clemency from him.

Sukumaran and Chan have been on death row since 2006 when they were convicted for their role in a botched 2005 bid to traffic heroin from Bali to Australia.
