A great grandfather was kicked repeatedly and held down by the throat as intruders ransacked his Nollamara unit.

Gus Warner, 73, said three men wearing balaclavas ambushed his back patio area late Thursday afternoon.

Mr Warner was thrown into a wall and attacked while he lay on the ground before one of the men pushed his foot down on his throat.

“I was worried about moving because I’m going to have a stimulator put in my heart,” Mr Warner said.

“I was very very scared.

“He just kept his boot over my throat.”

The thieves also kicked Mr Warner’s maltese-shitzu cross, Sunny, before getting away with medicine and electrical equipment.

Mr Warner suffered bruising but was angrier the thieves turned on his beloved Sunny.

“My dog was kicked a beauty. How low can you get?” he said.

“It’s unacceptable, there’s no need for it. Why must they pick on all the oldies?”

Mr Warner’s daughter Rachel said the Amelia Street home had been broken into five times and she was now too afraid to leave her father alone.

“There might be a time when I come home and find him dead,” she said.

A sore but unperturbed Mr Warner was determined not to let the “cowards” get the better of him yesterday as he got up early to perform his duty as a school-crossing attendant in Bayswater.

“He won’t let them hold him down,” Rachel said. “He loves the kids. He doesn’t just want to sit on the lounge and do nothing.”

Forensic officers spent yesterday collecting evidence from Mr Warner’s home.

The men were wearing dark clothing and last seen heading south on Wanneroo Road.
