Mercy College kindergarten student Andre D'Vauz has sent his toys on a journey to a Third World country just one hour north of Australia.

One-thousand East Timorese children, many orphaned by the nation's struggle for independence, will party in the streets of Dili this Christmas and unwrap presents from Perth.

The gifts will arrive in the 24th sea container of donations shipped to East Timor through the Rotary Club of Bentley-Curtin's Containers for Timor project.

Andre, 4, has parted with some of his most cherished possessions.

"I gave them my toy tools and my remote control cars and a Batman car," he said.

"Some of them have no mums and dads to love them or buy them toys."

Peter Snell, from the Rotary Club of Bentley-Curtin, said many schools in East Timor had no desks or seats for students, and some walked for hours to get there.

For three years, the Containers for Timor project has been upgrading those schools with equipment left behind by the Building the Education Revolution.

"When we go up there, we get to see the schools with all the new equipment in them and there's usually a big celebration," Mr Snell said.

The project has also provided medical supplies.
